About
Lion Cut

If your cat has mats, shaving is necessary to give relief from discomfort . But if there is no mat, regular de-shedding every two to four months is recommended.

1. Some coat will change color / texture and grow at a much slower rate
Some cat's coat change texture to a cotton-like fur which form s mats easily. This may occur as your cat gets older or due to pre-existing conditions. Also, as they reach old age, cats loose weight and have very loose and thin skin making them more vulnerable to injuries during shaving process.

2. Sun burn
Clipping the hair very short exposes the cat's skin to ultraviolet rays from the sun. Without its dense fur to protect it, a cat may experience sunburn. This is particularly true for white or light-colored felines.

3. Cats may not be able to thermoregulate.
Very short hair can affect the way cats' thermoregulate, causing them to become chilled or overheated once their coat is clipped. If your cat has a chronic illness or is elderly, you might ask your veterinarian for advice before having a lion cut for your cat.

4. Less hair = less skin protection.
Your cat’s fur helps to protect its skin from being damaged in tussles with other cats, or being scraped by thorns and such when it goes outside.

It is the preference of South Gay Drive Pet Grooming Room to shave a cat only when it is absolutely necessary.
